Nature has inspired humans for centuries. This workshop will act as a brainstorming session, and will help students find their own inspiration within nature to concept their fiber art.  The workshop will be split into 3 parts:

-The introduction will be a visual presentation showing examples of how the natural world has inspired fiber artists. Janelle will discuss how she processes her own inspiration from nature, discussing how color, texture and light can be translated with fibers.

-Then we will take a mellow group hike on the beautiful Chautaqua grounds to breath fresh air, observe nature and be inspired by the beautiful landscape.

-After returning to the classroom, students will have some time to contemplate ideas, sketch concepts and reflect.

The is not a technique-based workshop, but a valuable time to engage in conceptual creativity.

About Janelle

Janelle Pietrzak is a Los Angeles based textile artist and co-founder of All Roads design studio. With a history of over ten years working in the fashion industry, her textiles adapt to both functional and decorative craft.  Her work is a nod to nostalgic fiber art of the mid-century, but with unique color combinations and unexpected materials influenced by the landscape around her.  Through fiber, she explores varying textures and contrasting elements to create depth and richness in color.  Janelle's work spans fashion, fine art and design. Clients and collaborators have included Clare Vivier, Erica Tanov, Moon Juice, Ulla Johnson and a home goods textile license with Anthropologie.
