THE FIRST-EVER RETREAT FOR MODERN WEAVERS

We are so proud to present our dream project: the first-ever full-scale summit for modern weavers, The Weaving Kind Makerie! On October 19-22, 2017, we will gather as weavers and friends for three incredible days of learning, self-care, intention-setting and community.

The first Weaving Kind Makerie is set at the foot of the majestic Flatirons of Boulder, Colorado, at the historic Colorado Chautauqua. The campus, which backs up to hiking trails among breathtaking scenery, has been a venue for creative cultural learning since 1886. In cozy, time-seasoned buildings on a beautiful campus, you will take part in intimate workshops taught by your fiber art heroes, nourish your well-being with special self-care sessions, try incredible looms, tools and fibers, enjoy locally-sourced, healthy delicious meals, build friendships with other weavers, and be inspired by our instructor panels and evening speakers to set deeper intentions for a lifelong weaving practice.

To nurture your technical and creative growth, our retreat schedule allows for you to take four (4) three-hour workshop sessions taught by a mind-blowing team of instructors (see teacher list and workshop titles below). Workshop topics are diverse, unique and intentionally designed to get you thinking about weaving in a new way. You’ll walk away from the retreat with a whole new skill set that will launch you to new heights in your weaving practice! {Please note that you’ll need at least a basic knowledge of warping, weaving, and finishing a woven wall hanging to benefit from our workshop offerings.}

We are excited to offer many hours dedicated to making connections and fostering real-life friendships between weavers. We’ll have fascinating group discussion topics, lunchtime weaving clinics, and plenty of down time to get to know the people you’re sitting next to! With beautiful accommodations onsite, we also encourage you to use the cottages as gathering places!

In the early mornings of the retreat, you will have the opportunity to take part in very special self-care sessions, including hiking, yoga, and meditation. All are designed to fit into your ongoing creative practice as sources of inspiration, introspection and expansion.

Our evening sessions are built to inspire! On the first night, we’re proud to present our first special guest speaker, Australian dynamo and one of the forerunners of the modern weaving revival, Maryanne Moodie. Maryanne will be presenting our opening ceremony and speaking about weaving from the soul. Our second night will feature a TBA special guest (stay tuned)! On the last night of the retreat, you’ll get to know all of our instructors at a question-and-answer panel, followed by a party featuring amazing sponsor giveaways!

Words are not enough to convey our excitement about making this event a reality. We simply invite you to give yourself the gift of an unforgettable weekend of learning, growth, open hearts, collective energy, and So. Much. Yarn. See you in the mountains!

VENUE

The Colorado Chautauqua, nestled at the base of the Flatiron Mountains in Boulder, Colorado, is a National Historic Landmark complete with abundant hiking trails, cozy cottages, contemplative spaces, community gathering areas, and a beautifully renovated Dining Hall.

The Chautauqua mission is to cultivate experiences based on lifelong learning, love of nature, voluntary simplicity, and the arts ~ perfectly aligned with the Makerie’s mission too. It’s hard to capture the beauty of Chautauqua with only words so you’ll just have to come see for yourself what a truly magical place it is.

EATS

Our meals will served by the Chautauqua Dining Hall, run by Three Leafs Concepts. Their commitment to fresh, locally produced and organic ingredients led them to create their own farm, Three Leaf Farm in Lafayette. CO, where 100% of their harvest goes to their restaurants and extensive catering services. Their chefs work directly with their farmers to plan the wide variety of vegetables, fruits and herbs they grow and use in their creative seasonal menus. Mealtimes will range from family style gatherings to gourmet boxed lunches served picnic style and we can certainly accommodate special dietary needs.

ACCOMODATION

You have the wonderful opportunity to stay in one of Chautauqua’s cozy cottages, each with a unique history and charm. Greeted by meadows and mountains outside your front door, the cottages range in size from efficiency, one, two and three bedrooms, and have a fully equipped kitchen and screened-in front porch. Sleeping arrangements range from queen or single beds to the option of a pull-out couch if friends want to bunk up and save on lodging costs. There is also an option to book single rooms in the Missions Lodge, where many of our instructors will be staying. Please note that lodging is not included in the price of the retreat, but the Colorado Chautauqua is offering a special discounted rate for attendees of the WKM.

CLICK HERE for details to book your cozy cottage lodging.

**Please note that cottages are being held for attendees of the WKM through APRIL 20, 2017 - if you want to be guaranteed lodging on the Chautauqua grounds, be sure to book your cottage by that date.
Our special rate does still apply after that, but availability cannot be guaranteed.**
